Models of Colour

With all that is happening in the World, I feel like all industries need to be more diverse with the people they hire and not just represent one race. One industry that’s in the media almost everyday is the fashion industry, which in my opinion needs a lot more diversity. Their customers are supposedly meant to be from all around the world but the models do not represent these diverse customers.
Fashion Designer Zac Posen in his NYFW show on feb.15 casted predominately Black models (25/33). He got his inspiration for the line from Princess Elizabeth of Toro and wanted to โ€œembody Elizabethโ€™s elegance and intelligenceโ€. To represent a black women, it made sense if Black women modeled the clothes.

Although I am not the biggest Kanye West fan, I do applaud him for making a statement at his show. He casted 1200 models who were primarily black. This included  Naomi Campbell and Alek Webb.
