The next iteration of the company’s Office design lab is getting a name change, with Microsoft’s design team taking on a new name: “Design Lab” for the first time.
The name was inspired by the fact that the team has a focus on using “design elements” in their designs, which are typically the shapes and textures of objects, the team said in a blog post announcing the change.
Microsoft said the team’s design process has also changed from one where designers are able to take a look at the entire design before putting it into practice to a new approach that emphasizes visual feedback from the team and the feedback of customers.
The new name will be unveiled at a conference call later today.
Microsoft declined to name the conference organizers.
The company is also using the new name to expand the reach of the Office design labs, with a new website and a new Facebook page.
The company also is working on a redesigned Outlook app, Microsoft said in the blog post.
It is a new and streamlined application that can be used on multiple platforms, including tablets, phones and the web.
